Title: From Prosodics to Partyline: Human Factors of Datalink Communications
Abstract The increasing use by aircraft of data link communications as the preferred medium of information transfer for flight critical information such as weather and clearance, delivery raises a number of issues concerning the effects of this technology on pilot-controller communications. This paper compares voice and data link communications as information exchange media which support the human communication process. The potential impact on pilot-controller interactions of replacing voice communications with data link is discussed.
